Christmas is just around the corner – at least in the world of EastEnders.

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw has exclusively revealed to the Mirror what fans can expect from the BBC soap over the next few months in the run-up to Christmas, and hinted that the Mitchells could be at the centre of the drama.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror about what to expect, he said: “Christmas is in full swing. There's a board in the story office and everything is connected. I liken it to a tapestry board, everything has to fit together. We're getting the new Mitchells, who are going to cause a lot of trouble. And as we move towards the autumn and the end of the year, we've got some surprises coming up.”

Could this be a hint that the new Mitchells could play a big role this Christmas? Will Phil and Billy welcome Teddy and his family with open arms or are they in for trouble in typical Mitchell fashion?

Stevie's son Teddy Mitchell has arrived on the square and Billy's world is turned upside down. The whole Mitchell family is stunned to learn that there is a whole secret family they never knew about!

At the time, bosses hinted that tension would peak when Stevie tells Billy that Teddy is his half-brother. Roland Manookian plays the role of Teddy alongside Elijah Holloway as Harry and Lewis Bridgeman as Barney.

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw gave a preview at the time: “I'm delighted to welcome Roland, Elijah and Lewis to EastEnders as we bring a new branch of the legendary Mitchell family to the pitch. The arrival of Teddy, Harry and Barney will come as a huge shock to Billy and an unwelcome surprise to Phil. With their arrival raising more questions than answers, it's not long before the Mitchells find themselves at war, with Teddy and his sons thrust into the heart of the drama.”

Roland Manookian, who plays Teddy, added: “I've watched EastEnders all my life so it's incredible to be involved! Coming in as Mitchell means you have big shoes to fill but it's a challenge I'm happy to take on. It's a privilege to have the chance to work with the likes of Perry Fenwick, Steve McFadden and the legendary Alan Ford – what great company. Teddy is an enigmatic guy with old-fashioned principles but he also has a feel for the modern age. It's a lovely role to sink my teeth into.”
