“The Chosen” Creator Dallas Jenkins Presents Trailer for Christmas Film “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” – Faithwire

Christmas in July is officially here.

Dallas Jenkins, creator of the hit Bible series “The Chosen,” has just released the trailer for his upcoming Christmas film “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 8th.

Distributed by Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, the film is based on Barbara Robinson's 1972 novel of the same name. It was directed by Jenkins and the screenplay was written by a collaboration between “The Chosen” showrunner Platte F. Clark, Darin McDaniel and Ryan Swanson.

In an interview with Deseret News, Jenkins described the making of the Christmas film as “a dream come true” and called the project “the film I've wanted to make most throughout my entire career.”

“And I wouldn't want to do this with anyone other than Lionsgate and Kingdom, who make great films while supporting the filmmakers,” he said.

Jenkins once described The Best Christmas Pageant Ever as “the movie I was born to make,” adding, “If I could only make one movie for the rest of my life, it would be this one.”

The book – and the upcoming film – tell the story of the Herdman children. The six children are known troublemakers and one day show up at a church where Judy Greer, the director of the annual Christmas program, is overwhelmed.

At this point, the Herdmans take over the pageant and the townspeople are worried they will ruin everything. Ultimately, however, the misfit kids make the program better than anything they've seen before.

The story, Jenkins explained in an Instagram post, is – at its core – a story about “the least of these.”

“It's actually similar to what 'The Chosen' is trying to do,” he said. “It's trying to take the Christmas story and the story of Jesus from stained glass windows and beautiful paintings … and reveal what it really is. And through the eyes of these children, they're actually doing that.”

He sees the upcoming debut as his chance to create “a new Christmas classic.”

The film stars Lauren Graham (known from “Gilmore Girls”), Judy Greer (from “Ant-Man” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), comedian Pete Holmes and Elizabeth Tabish (star of “The Chosen”).
