In a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers introduced their 2024 draft class, which includes Dalton Knecht and Bronny James.

After barely speaking to the media in high school and college, James was naturally bombarded with questions, most of them about his father, LeBron, now that they are official teammates.

Bronny has been the focus of much criticism since being signed by the Lakers, but he is not worried about that or the pressure that comes with playing alongside LeBron.

“The pressure is definitely more,” Bronny admitted. “I've seen it in the media and on the internet and there's been talk everywhere about how maybe I don't deserve a chance. But I've dealt with this kind of thing my whole life, so it's no different. It's definitely more. But I can get through it.”

Although LeBron has been talking about wanting to play in the NBA with Bronny for years, this was his wish and not that of the 19-year-old.

“I'm always trying to make a name for myself, but at the same time, get better,” Bronny said of his focus. “Rob told me there's a great development system here, so I just want to come in, do my job and get better every day.”

“I never really thought about playing with my dad. He was always there to participate, but that wasn't my main concern.”

Bronny added that he hasn't even really talked to his father about playing in the NBA and the benefits that come with it.

“We haven't gotten too deep into it yet, especially since we haven't even started Summer League yet. But things that he's been telling me my whole life. Just having that work ethic and coming out here and doing your job and listening to your coaches and being coachable. He's been instilling those things in me my whole life.”

It's easy to see how humble Bronny is. He just wants to come out here and work on his game to become a top-notch NBA player for the Lakers. He hears all the noise around him, but he doesn't pay any attention to it.

“Honestly, I just live day by day. I try not to worry about what other people think of me because there are a lot of people who have something to say. But yeah, I just live day by day and stay sane,” Bronny said.

Even though Bronny James wasn't in the NBA, he certainly played a lot of basketball growing up with his dad in the driveway, and he believes that will help him as they team up with the Lakers, although he remains focused on doing whatever he can to help the team.

“For me, it's just about laying the foundation of playing the right way,” Bronny said. “Like I said, it's just about being the guy that's coachable, playing his role and continuing to work at it.”
