7 Paris Couture Week Street Style Trends You Should Know

The fashion calendar always has these little highlights that catch my eye throughout the year. I usually forget they're coming, but couture week is here and it's given me just the inspiration I needed to plan my wardrobe for the rest of the year. Since many of the couture fashion week shows focus more on an avant-garde approach to design, it's a great time to be creative, and show-goers do just that. I wear trends you might not expect from the traditional French girl crowd, and often take notes both on and off the runway. Today we need to talk about what I've been seeing on the street style scene.

Showcasing the likes of the most oversized shoulder pads you've ever seen at Viktor & Rolf and the lampshade-inspired hat that caught my eye at Balenciaga, the runways had no rules when it came to street style this season and it showed. I've listed the 7 trends below, so keep an eye out for them.

1. Decorative elements

If you love amassing jewelry as much as I do, you'll love this trend that sees gold, silver, and diamonds added to your clothes too. This trend was really inspired by Schiaparelli's recent collections, so Couture Week was the perfect place to showcase it.

2. Hats as conversation starters

We were reintroduced to playful hats during the last runway season and I've been thinking about how to style them ever since. We're finally seeing great examples in street style. This trend is the perfect way to give a new look to a look you already have.

3. Everyday suit

While suits are considered more of an elegant outfit in women's fashion, I also like to see them styled for everyday wear. With casual sneakers or simple ballerina shoes, this look is ideal.

4. Tempting texture

Nothing caught my eye in the street style crowd like the structured outfits I saw everywhere. Feathers, fringe and other 3D elements are an eye-catching addition to any outfit.

5. Everything buttoned up

Dresses, skirts and tops are enhanced with buttons down the front. This shirt-inspired motif can elevate any basic in your closet.
