Scarlett Johansson tops Forbes list of highest-paid actresses in Hollywood

Scarlett Johansson is Hollywood’s highest-paid actress for the second year in a row.

According to Forbes, Johansson earned $56 million (£45.6 million) in the year ending June 1, 2018.

This surpasses the $40.5 million (£33 million) figure that put her at the top of the earning list last year.

Much of this sum is due to her substantial contract as part of the main cast of Avengers: Endgamebut she also received an eight-figure severance package for her leading role in the Black widow Film that is scheduled to be released in theaters next year.

Dwayne Johnson topped the list of highest-paid actors with earnings of $89.4 million (£73.6 million), thanks to his dominance in Hollywood’s “action man” roles and his position as a central cog in the lucrative Fast & Furious Machine.

With her overall score, Johansson would be eighth on the male list, behind Bradley Cooper and Adam Sandler.

Sofia Vergara took second place on the list with $44.1 million (£35.9 million) for the year, followed by Big little lies Stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are close behind with $35 million (£28.5 million) and $34 million (£27.7 million) respectively.

Completing the top five is Jennifer Aniston – a mainstay of this list – who earned $28 million (£22.8 million) in the year under review.

Veterans like Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett were missing this year, but there were newcomers like Once upon a time in HollywoodMargot Robbie and The Handmaid's Tale Actress Elisabeth Moss joins the ranks.

In total, women in the top ten earned a combined $314.6 million (£256 million) – an increase of 69% on the previous year.

However, their total is still surpassed by the $588.3 million (£478.9 million) earned by the top ten highest-paid male artists.
