Mega Millions ticket expires soon, $2.9 million unclaimed in LA


California lottery players are checking these tickets because they could be $2.9 million richer.

A Mega Millions ticket worth an estimated $2,941,708 million expires this weekend. The lucky ticket was purchased in Los Angeles for the December 12, 2023 drawing, according to the Mega Millions press release.

The ticket was sold at the SK gas station at 11280 National Boulevard, the press release said.

The winning numbers were 8th, 23, 44, 45And 53just missed Mega number 3.

Mega Millions winners who match all five white numbers have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize.

If no one claims the $2.9 million by the weekend, all of the money will go to public schools in California, the lottery company said.

Anyone who holds a winning ticket has until 5 p.m. Friday to bring the ticket to one of the nine California lottery locations.

The winner can also complete the documents found here using the ticket and documents postmarked on or before Saturday.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be on Friday, June 7 at 11:00 p.m. ET.

How high is the jackpot?

The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday's drawing is $20 million, with a cash payout option of $9.3 million, the lottery said.

The jackpot amount was reset after Tuesday night's drawing, when a lucky player from Illinois won the $560 million prize.

How to play Mega Millions

To purchase a ticket, you will need to visit your local supermarket, gas station or grocery store. In some states, you can also order tickets online.

To play, you must select six numbers. Five numbers are white balls ranging from 1 to 70. The golden Mega Ball is a number between 1 and 25.

If you feel the odds are against you, ask for a “Quick Pick” or “Easy Pick.” The computer will randomly generate the numbers for you.

For $1, players can add the “Megaplier,” which can multiply non-top prize winnings by two, three, four, or five times. The Megaplier is drawn on Tuesday and Friday before the Mega Millions numbers.
