Janiah Barker signs with UCLA women's basketball

LOS ANGELES – The Bruins signed Janiah Barker, who transferred from Texas A&M, to add depth ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Barker was the Aggies' second-leading rebounder in her sophomore season, finishing the year with 7.6 rebounds per game. The Marietta, Georgia, native was the only freshman in the SEC to lead her team in points per game (12.7) during her first collegiate season; as a sophomore, she scored 12.2 points per game.

The up-and-coming young talent unites with Lauren Bettswho was her teammate at USA Basketball at the 2023 AmeriCup. Barker, Betts and Charisma Osborne won a silver medal at the summer competition in Mexico.

2023-24 (Sophomore at Texas A&M)
The Marietta, Georgia, native was the youngest player and only sophomore to make the SEC Preseason First Team prior to the 2023-24 season. Barker started 27 times in 30 appearances in her second collegiate season. As a sophomore, she scored 365 points and grabbed 227 rebounds, second-highest for A&M in those statistical categories. In her final season with the Aggies, she recorded eight double-doubles and averaged 12.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in 30 games as a sophomore. Barker was named to the Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll and was on the 2023 Katrina McClain Award watchlist.

Was named SEC Freshman of the Week twice and was named USBWA National Freshman of the Week after an impressive performance against Georgia on Jan. 22 … Was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team … Started 19 times and started seven … Led the Aggies with a team-high 12.7 points per game and was the only freshman in the SEC to lead her team in scoring … Was second on the team in rebounds per game (5.9) … Recorded two double-doubles when she posted 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against Rice (Nov. 27), becoming the first freshman since 2015 to record a double-double for the program, and collected 22 points and 10 rebounds against Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals (March 3) … Recorded a career-high 24 points against Georgia on Jan. 22 and sunk 10 of 11 (90.9%) from the field in just 20 minutes of playing time after missing 10 games due to injury.
