Hunter Biden gun trial: Defense will decide whether Hunter will take the stand as court recesses over the weekend

Naomi Biden, Hunter Biden's 30-year-old daughter, testified that her father “seemed great, he seemed hopeful” when she saw him in New York on October 18 or 19, 2018, where she returned his car to him – several days after he bought the gun at issue in the case and just days before his then-girlfriend Hallie Biden discovered and threw it away.

Earlier, in August, Naomi Biden described visiting him in Los Angeles, where he was attending a drug rehabilitation program. “He seemed more lucid than he ever had since my uncle died,” she said, referring to Hunter Biden's brother Beau Biden.

This was important testimony for the defense in their attempt to prove that Hunter Biden was not using drugs at the time of the gun purchase.

Defense attorney Abbe Lowell questioned Naomi Biden about the car trip she and her then-boyfriend took from Washington DC to New York in mid-October 2018 to return her father's truck, a Ford Raptor.

During cross-examination, prosecutor Leo Wise asked Naomi Biden if she had ever seen her father use drugs – she said no – or if she could tell from his behavior that he was using drugs.

“I don’t think so,” she said.

Wise also found that Naomi Biden left no drugs or drug residue in the vehicle before returning it to her father – suggesting that the drug residue and paraphernalia Hallie Biden discovered in the car arrived there days after Hunter Biden picked up the truck.

The jury also saw some emotional text messages between Naomi Biden and her father from that mid-October period.

“I'm really sad, I can't stand this,” she wrote to her father, adding, “I really want to spend time with you.”

“I'm sorry I was so unavailable,” Hunter Biden replied. “That's not fair to you.”

On the witness stand, Naomi Biden spoke softly, saying at one point, “Excuse me, I'm nervous.” Her husband, Peter Neal, sat in the gallery next to First Lady Jill Biden and held his hand over his mouth during most of the testimony.

Hunter Biden appeared emotional and was seen touching his face at times during his testimony.

When her testimony was finished, she hugged her father before leaving the courtroom, and the court adjourned for lunch.
