Everything you need to know about the OnePlus 13 leaks – Augustman Singapore

OnePlus makes great premium phones and the latest OnePlus 12 is living proof of that. Whether it's the beautifully designed back or the cutting-edge internal specs, the OnePlus 12 is a great recommendation for people looking to stand out from the Samsung and Apple camps. So how will its successor, the OnePlus 13, fare?

Although the OnePlus 13 is still months away from its official release, OnePlus is said to be taking its non-foldable flagship to a slightly higher level, potentially making it a threat to Samsung's Galaxy S series. The partnership with Hasselblad will continue for another year and this time around, OnePlus seems to be making better use of its knowledge base to improve its flagship's cameras – an Achilles heel of the brand since its heyday.

Most importantly, the OnePlus 13 will arrive in a world where generative AI will be a central aspect of most modern smartphones. It would also be one of the first of many Android phones to use the newer 3nm platform that has been exclusive to Apple since 2023's iPhone 15 Pro. All of this makes it one of the most eagerly awaited premium phones set to launch next year.

Given the excitement and buzz it is generating, we decided to round up all the leaks and rumors about the OnePlus 13 ahead of its likely release in the last quarter of 2024.

The last major upgrade to the OnePlus flagship came in 2022 with the announcement of the OnePlus 10 Pro, a premium handset with all the amenities we've come to expect from OnePlus. The subsequent generations since then have been seen as iterative updates with slightly tweaked designs and improved hardware.

With the OnePlus 13, a lot is changing at a rapid pace. Let's start with the core aspects.

The OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 stand out from the crowd thanks to their large and uniquely shaped circular camera bumps. In fact, the circular camera bump has given OnePlus' flagship phones a different identity and even inspired other brands to copy it. Now, with the OnePlus 13, the brand is looking to go in a different direction.

Initial rumors point to a rectangular camera bump on the OnePlus 13 that houses three camera sensors – something similar to the design of the OnePlus 10 Pro. Although the renders have not yet been released, it seems that OnePlus wants its flagship to stand out from the multitude of cheap and mid-priced Android phones from sister brand Realme. It is also said that OnePlus wants to go for a flatter display panel instead of one with the familiar rounded edges. The iconic Alert Slider mute switch is said to remain on the device.

OnePlus generally relies on Qualcomm's flagship mobile chip when it comes to performance under the hood. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 set to power the next generation of smartphones, we believe the OnePlus 13 will come with this new chipset to deliver unmatched performance. For the uninitiated, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to be based on the newer 3nm node and promises superior performance and power efficiency. It is also expected to significantly improve neural processing, helping more Gen AI tasks to be handled on the device.

Along with the chipset, OnePlus is also expected to bring generative AI features to the next version of OxygenOS. We expect the brand to collaborate with Google and integrate the Gemini Nano AI model on the device to introduce intelligent AI features. It would not be a surprise if OnePlus introduces cloud-based Gen AI features such as advanced photo editing, video editing, and access to the Gemini Ultra AI model.

The camera system on OnePlus' flagships has left enthusiasts and amateur photographers wanting more for years. Even the Hasselblad partnership struggled to give users a great camera experience on OnePlus' flagships. This year, however, it looks like OnePlus is targeting the Google Pixel, iPhone, and Samsung Galaxy S flagships with serious hardware upgrades.

According to the leaks about the OnePlus 13, it will have a triple camera system with three 50-megapixel image sensors, similar to the Xiaomi 14. The main sensor and the ultra-wide-angle shooter could get new Sony image sensors for improved dynamic range and better clarity. The telephoto lens will also rely on a top-of-the-line 50-megapixel sensor to improve image clarity when taking portrait photos and zoomed-in images. Unfortunately, the optical magnification will be limited to 3x, but the advanced image sensor could enable up to 5x lossless magnification.

The OnePlus 12 made headlines because it features a massive 5,500mAh battery that can comfortably last even power users all day.

According to rumors, OnePlus now wants to install a larger cell with 6,000 mAh capacity in the OnePlus 13. Not only is this a huge increase in endurance on paper, the additional capacity could also cover additional power consumption should the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip prove to be power hungry.

When it comes to charging, OnePlus is expected to rely exclusively on the 100W wired charging solution that we saw on the OnePlus 12. Rumors suggest that the 2025 flagship will forgo wireless charging.

For the past two generations, OnePlus has stuck to an aggressive pricing strategy to undercut the iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S flagships. According to the OnePlus 13 leaks, there is a possibility of a price hike that will eventually bring it closer to the iPhone 16. The newer 3nm Qualcomm chip along with the revamped camera system and Gen AI features could push the price up.

Release date
