The first two rounds of the state playoffs were tough for the WPIAL baseball and softball teams.

Halfway to Penn State, the district is left with only three baseball and six softball teams.

WPIAL 3A champion Avonworth takes the top spot in the baseball standings, while district runners-up Indiana in Class 4A and Eden Christian Academy in Class A from District 7 are still in the running for state gold.

Elizabeth Forward is the new top team in softball.

The Warriors are still in the PIAA Class 4A playoffs and Thomas Jefferson is the only remaining WPIAL team in Class 5A.

District 7 is guaranteed a team in the PIAA Class 2A and Class A championship games.

Northern rivals face off in the 2A state championship semifinals when undefeated Neshannock faces Laurel for the third time this spring.

The Class A PIAA Final Four will pit southern rivals against each other for the fourth time this season when Chartiers-Houston takes on Carmichaels.

Here are the penultimate Power Rankings for the 2024 season. Teams are listed with overall record and last week's ranking. These weekly rankings have no classification limits.
