DeWitt 10th in Division 2

EAST LANSING – Luke Hanselman of DeWitt is four strokes behind the leader and tied for sixth place after the first day of play in the Division 2 boys golf state finals at Michigan State University's Forest Akers West.

Hanselman posted a first-round score of 74, while co-leaders Leandro Pinili of Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice and Will Preston of Grand Rapids Catholic Central each posted a score of 70.

Thanks to Hanselman's performance, DeWitt finished 10th in the team standings on Friday with a score of 322.

Mason is ranked 11th with his score of 323, while Haslett is 13th (328) and St. Johns is 16th (334).

Carter Gerard of Haslett is ranked 20th individually, shooting a 77 in the opening round. St. John's was led by Grant Rustad, who had a round of 78 to finish 27th. Joe Strach and Josh of Mason are tied with rounds of 79, and Justin Steinman of DeWitt is tied for 37th.

Richland Gull Lake leads the team list, shooting 303.

Division 3 at Katke

Lansing Catholic is ranked seventh with a score of 350 in the opening round of Friday's finals in Big Rapids. Cole Hutchinson led the Cougars with a round of 82 and is ranked 18th in the leaderboard, while Hayden Riley is ranked 26th with a score of 84.

Alma is ranked 14th overall and was led by Cooper Couch, who scored 87 points and is ranked 41st. The Panthers had a team score of 362.

Traverse City St. Francis is in first place and shot 328 as a team.

Division 1 in Bedford Valley

Okemos junior Ian Masih is ranked 22nd after the opening round of the state finals in Battle Creek. Masih, who qualified as an individual, shot a round of 78.

Masih is eight strokes behind Menser of Detroit Julian, who led the field with a 70.

Division 4 at The Meadows

Webberville senior Brad Davis finished the opening round of the state finals in 12th place after shooting a round of 85. He is just one stroke out of the top 10 heading into Saturday's final round.

Will Pennanen of Clarkston Everest is the individual leader with his round of 76 and has a five-stroke lead.
