James Gunn's Superman fills the Daily Planet newsroom

James Gunn fills the Daily Planets Newsroom.

Mikaela Hoover and Christopher MacDonald have joined the cast of Gunn's Supermanthe opening film of DC Studios.

The film is currently being produced in Atlanta. David Corenswet plays Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan Daily Planets Reporter Lois Lane.

The duo will have company in the newsroom. Earlier this week The Hollywood Reporter reported that Saturday Night Live Former series star Beck Bennett joined the production to play Steve Lombardo, a cocky and egotistical reporter who serves as a counterpart to Boy Scout reporter Kent in the comics.

Sources tell THR that Hoover plays Cat Grant, who in the comics was a gossip columnist who had a crush on Kent. The character, created by Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway, has appeared in several television shows, most notably CW's Supergirl in which she was played by Calista Flockhart.

McDonald plays Ron Troupe, one of the newsroom's best reporters. In the comics, the character, created by Ordway and Tom Grummett, had a son with Lois Lane's sister Lucy Lane.

In “Superman,” which will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025, Nicholas Hoult can also be seen as the villain Lex Luthor.

The film will feature classic Superman supporting characters such as Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio) and Daily Planets Editor-in-chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce).

Various DC heroes will also appear. Edi Gathegi plays Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan is Metamorpho, Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is Guy Gardner and María Gabriela de Faría plays The Engineer.

Hoover appeared in supporting roles in several Gunn productions, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad And The Belko Experiment, aamong them. She also appeared in the Netflix romantic comedy Love Strongly.

MacDonald is a newcomer to the screen.
