Amazon Prime Video: “American Gladiators” – New Edition

The gladiators return to the arena… this time for Prime Video.

The Amazon-owned streaming service says it has picked up a reboot of the classic competition series American Gladiatorsand a nationwide search is currently underway for candidates to compete against the professional gladiators in the specially constructed arena.

The arena will feature brand new challenges as well as some classics from the original series such as “Gauntlet,” “Hang Tough,” and “The Eliminator.”

The new series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and MGM Alternative.

The news that a revival of the competition series was imminent became clear in April when Range Sports signed Gladiators Creator Johnny Ferraro plans to develop the intellectual property “across television, film, attractions, merchandise and live events.”

The original series, which ran in syndication from 1989 to 1996, pitted contestants against elite “gladiators” in made-for-television competitions. The series was revived as a primetime show for NBC in 2008 and relaunched by the BBC earlier this year, quickly earning it a second season.
