Texas Longhorns and Stanford Cardinal face off in WCWS semifinals

Less than a week after Texas defeated the Cardinal 4-0, the teams meet again, battling for a spot in the national championship finals.

Texas and Stanford have found different paths to the semifinals. Since losing to the Longhorns in the first round, Stanford had to beat host Oklahoma State 8-0 and UCLA 3-1 in the elimination round to stay in the tournament. Texas, on the other hand, has only kept one other clean sheet against Florida. The Gators lost 10-0 to Longhorn pitcher Mac Morgan.

Under the tournament's double-elimination format, Stanford must win two games to advance to the finals. If the Cardinal defeat Texas in the first game, a second must be played to determine the finalist. A Texas win in the first or second game will result in a better tournament record and a spot in contention for the national championship.

Texas goes into the semifinals with two wins and no losses, while Stanford has two wins and one loss.

The first meeting between Texas and Stanford is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 3. If necessary, the second game would begin shortly thereafter at 8:30 p.m. It will be televised on ESPN2.

The winner of the semifinals will face the winner of the Oklahoma-Florida matchup, which is scheduled to begin earlier in the day at 11 a.m. in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The best-of-three national championship series begins on Wednesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. All final games will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
