Leaks about Phone 16 Pro and Pro Max: World's narrowest bezels and larger screens expected

Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, which are expected to be unveiled this fall. The design is largely similar to that of the iPhone 15 Pro, but features some notable improvements. According to industry insider IceUniverse (via 9To5M), the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro could feature the thinnest smartphone bezels ever, a feat made possible by advanced display technology.

The expected bezel reduction follows the trend seen in the transition from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 15 series, where the bezel size decreased significantly from around 3.5mm to under 2mm. On the iPhone 16 Pro, this distance is further minimized, contributing to a sleek and modern aesthetic. This improvement is due to the implementation of Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, which bends the wiring and circuitry downward near the panel edges – a process that presented some manufacturing challenges.

In addition to the narrower bezels, the iPhone 16 Pro series is expected to have slightly larger displays. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro's screen size will grow from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will likely grow from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Despite the overall growth in size of the device, the reduced bezels will help mitigate the increase and ensure that the phones remain comfortable to hold.

While the design of the Dynamic Island display cutout remains unchanged this year, rumors suggest that Face ID could be integrated under the display in future models, particularly the high-end iPhone 17 in 2025, which would reduce the cutout to a circular hole.

Aside from the display improvements, the iPhone 16 Pro lineup is expected to include the latest A18 processor and introduce a new physical force-sensitive “capture button” for improved photo and video recording. In addition, the 5x zoom feature, previously reserved for the Pro Max, will be available for the first time on the Pro model.

Apple will likely officially announce the iPhone 16 series at a media event in September, continuing its tradition of fall product launches.
