NBA players watch UNC's top basketball target in Italy

Among a long list of top prospects that includes another 2025 UNC Basketball offer holder, four-star center Malachi Moreno of Great Crossing High School (Kentucky), five-star guard Darryn Peterson of Huntington Prep (W.Va.) appears to be grabbing most of the attention at the Adidas Basketball Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy. He and Moreno are Teammates at the event competes for the 3SSB Select team.

The global talent show, which began on Saturday and runs through Monday, includes practices and games between six teams. And it features some well-known NBA players, including James Harden and Ivica Zubac.

On Sunday, the 6-foot-5, 195-pound Peterson, an electrifying playmaker who just turned 17 and is ranked No. 3 overall in the 247Sports 2025 Composite, put together what nbadraftpoint described as “the best performance yet at Adidas Eurocamp in Team 3SSB’s win over Team World.”

He finished the game with 29 points, eight rebounds and four assists. It was also a very efficient performance, as Peterson made 12 of 17 field shots, 3 of 5 three-pointers and 2 of 3 free throws.

ESPN’s Jonathan Wasserman was in attendance and summed up Darryn Peterson’s first-class day:

“Darryn Peterson's light offensive line again at Eurocamp today. Incredible goal scorer. Shots pretty easily. Runs over defenders and does pull-ups all day long. Absolute control.”

Darryn Peterson and Malachi Moreno, now rising high school students, are on a 14-player wish list for UNC’s basketball class of 2025, including 10 five-star players, but so far they have neither resulted in a recruiting success nor a failure for Hubert Davis and his Tar heels.
