Speyside distillery Glen Moray has entered the world of golf following a partnership with the Senior Open Championship.

Glen Moray
The whisky brand will sponsor the Senior Open – for players aged 50 and over – for three years

The brand will be the official whisky of the championship – Europe's only senior major – which takes place this year from July 25 to 28 at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland.

The sponsorship contract has a term of three years and was signed for an undisclosed six-figure sum.

Jamie Stewart, UK Commercial Director of La Martiniquaise-Bardinet UK, the parent company of Glen Moray, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the Senior Open Championship, an event renowned for its world-class golf and convivial atmosphere, held on some of the UK’s most famous courses.

“Golf and Scotch whisky have so much in common, from our reputation as Scottish icons around the world to our shared ability to bring friends together to have good times. As the Official Whisky of the Championship, we are really looking forward to celebrating these shared values and introducing golf fans to our single malt whiskies and the history of Glen Moray.”

“We are also very proud to support Scottish golfers in the early stages of their careers through our partnership with Paul Lawries Tartan Pro Tour.”

At the Senior Open, the Glen Moray team and its global brand ambassador Iain Allan will be on site and will serve the distillery's single malt whiskies in addition to a cocktail program.

In addition, the brand is now also the official whisky of the Tartan Pro Tour, a tour founded by 1999 Open winner Paul Lawrie that serves as a development tour for male and female golfers.

The tour, which takes place in Scotland, visits 13 golf courses over the course of the year and Glen Moray will be present with a glass at each one – the company is also sponsoring the brand's home game at Nairn Dunbar golf course near its distillery in Elgin.

Welcoming Glen Moray as a sponsor, Lawrie said: “It is great to have the support of Glen Moray as an event sponsor. We look forward to the Tour’s first visit to Nairn Dunbar Golf Club on the Moray Firth, close to the Glen Moray Distillery.

“The Tartan Pro Tour is becoming increasingly popular with players aspiring to the highest level of professional golf and it is great news that a global brand like Glen Moray is supporting the sport through both the Tartan Pro Tour and the Senior Open.”

Last month, the brand owned by La Martiniquaise-Bardinet launched two new whiskies as part of its Warehouse 1 Collection.
