Introducing the SoCal Local – Daily Bulletin

The SoCal Local on TikTok

In late 2023, the Southern California News Group launched a new TikTok, Instagram and YouTube account, SoCal Local.

Led by Audience Engagement Producer Carolyn Burt, SoCal Local focuses on highlighting the reporting of our award-winning reporters across all of our eleven publications in Los Angeles County, Orange County and the Inland Empire through social video.

By creating SoCal Local, we want to share our reporting in the form of short video summaries.

Here are some creative and unique cafes to visit in Orange County, Los Angeles, and the Inland Empire. In our videos, we highlighted news from the entertainment industry, such as a behind-the-scenes look at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and a look at the new menu items at Disneyland's food festivals. We also delivered news that affects Southern California residents, such as reports on storms, the impact of earth movements on Wayfarer Chapel, and rare orca sightings off the California coast. In addition, we updated our audience on news from Southern California's higher education community, such as the ongoing pro-Palestine protests at USC, UCLA, UC Irvine, and other campuses in the region.

The way people read and consume news is constantly changing. Younger generations have grown up in a world with smartphones and constant access to technology. We recognize the importance of reporting news on social media platforms they already know and use.

We hope to be a trusted source on TikTok and reach audiences who may not have discovered us through our print publications, websites, or other social media platforms. This account is also an opportunity for us to interact with our followers, answer questions, and get news directly from the community.

To stay up to date with the latest Southern California news, follow SoCal Local on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach is hosting a gathering on Friday, Feb. 23, spotlighting the bright blue waters with several exhibits. Visitors can shake the algae to make it glow or put their hands in the water to make it glow. The evening is part of the “Night Dive” series of events, where the aquarium transforms into an adults-only venue, complete with cocktails and music.
