A video that has now gone viral shows the manager of a local store erupting in a furious rage at a suspected shoplifter.

The footage captures the moment Amber Jolly, store manager of the Gramercy Boutique at the corner of 14th Street and Montana Avenue, confronts a man who claims to have stolen a shopping bag full of clothing. In the video, Jolly can be heard yelling at the alleged thief: “Give me my jacket right now!” and “Don't steal anything from my damn store!”

“What convinced me is that I know the owner is working very hard to keep the store open,” Jolly said in an interview with local news station KCAL News. “Stores keep closing because of all this looting. The system is broken. Nothing is being done about it.”

According to KCAL, SMPD did not immediately confirm that a police report had been issued regarding the incident and that the store owner had told Jolly her confrontational behavior was not necessary.

Shops along Santa Monica's retail-heavy Montana Avenue were the target of several robberies last year.

In September 2023, weeks before a suspect pointed a gun at employees and robbed the First Citizens Bank branch on the tree-lined street, three restaurants on Montana Ave. were burglarized by suspects wearing ski masks who fled in a dark sedan. The thieves smashed the windows of all three branches, including those of frozen yogurt franchise Pinkberry and Cafe Bardonna, while vegan restaurant Margo's was also robbed of several thousand dollars in cash.
