Kim Petras believes that makeup and music are “intertwined”

Kim Petras believes that makeup and music are “intertwined.”

The German singer-songwriter has explained that she uses makeup to tell her story alongside her music.

“Makeup and my songs and music are so intertwined,” Kim said in a recent interview with Allure. “I get to tell my story (with makeup). Telling stories is my favorite thing to do as a songwriter.”

The 31-year-old artist further said that she also uses makeup to create different “characters.”

“(Early in my career) I made up a more glamorous character than I am because I felt like I wasn't that person at all, being a little country girl in Germany,” she told the publication. “The same thing happened with my Halloween album (Turn Off the Light); everything on it is very corpse-like and very dead. (For my album Sl*t Pop Miami) it was fun to make my eyebrows really thin, take a spray tan and do my contouring differently.”

The Unholy singer continued, “(My characters relate to) things that are in my DNA as a person. I didn't really think, 'I'm going to do hyper-feminine bimbo-fication core.' I was just raised by Paris Hilton.”

Kim concluded by saying, “Without makeup, I wouldn’t be able to do my job the way I want to.”
